Research organisation making music!

The “Feel teal Friday” campaign was launched September 4th, 2009, but due to public-interest, has been extended until December 31st, 2009.
The first ‘online’ social media event of its kind, with the aim to
help support the need for ovarian cancer awareness and research, now working alongside musicians to make some more noise!

The Go Research Fund, legendary Songwriter/Producer/former bass-player/co-founder of “KC & the Sunshine band”& seven-time Grammy Award winner; Rick Finch, Awareness campaigner/author; Debbie Stevens, song lyricist, poet; Lance Toohey & Australian Rock/Pop musician; Anthony Snape and our friends at Flip Side To Music, have joined forces to raise awareness & funds, for Ovarian cancer-

The Go Research Fund vision, is to improve the health outcomes for women suffering from ovarian and gynaecological cancers and to increase community awareness of these diseases.
The Challenge - is to find a blood test that will allow all women to be screened for ovarian cancer and diagnosed while the disease is in its early stages.

Our Spokesman; Rick Finch, has generously offered to donate 50% of sales from his latest CD, "For All Reasons", which in turn will help fund the need for an early detection test for ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer doesn’t have a screening test. So it is vital that women are aware of the symptoms.

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as a silent killer because its symptoms can be vague and similar to the symptoms of many other conditions that can be part of everyday life.

Every woman will have experienced one or more of these symptoms at some stage. But if any of these symptoms are unusual for you and they persist, it is important to see your doctor.

UNITED STATES

    * One in 72 women will develop ovarian cancer (lifetime risk).
    * One in 95 women will die from ovarian cancer.3
    * A woman’s lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer is 1.39 percent.
    * A woman’s risk of developing ovarian cancer and dying from it is 1.05 percent.

Survival and stage at diagnosis4

    * The overall five-year relative survival rate for all women with ovarian cancer is 46 percent. This means that compared to women in the general population, five years from the time of diagnosis only 46 percent of women with ovarian cancer are still alive.
    * However, the survival rate improves greatly to 93 percent if the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage before it has spread. Only 19 percent of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed at this local stage.
    * Approximately 75 percent of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage after the cancer has spread beyond the ovary.
    * The five-year survival rate for women with ovarian cancer has not significantly increased in the past 30 years—a mere 8 percent.
    * Women diagnosed with ovarian cancer from 1975 to 1979 experienced a five-year survival rate of approximately 38 percent. Today this rate is approximately 46 percent.

Ovarian cancer survival rates have not improved as significantly as those of some other cancers that affect primarily women. For example, women diagnosed with breast cancer from 1975 to 1979 experienced a five-year survival rate of 75 percent and today this rate is 89 percent.

Special memories of a meal, place, and person It happened many years ago, but my memory is clear. It was a spring night in September. It had been a long time coming, but we finally made reservations, in a special restaurant. We had been eagerly waiting for this time together, it had arrived. We had dressed in our most elegant clothes. Alighting from our car, making sure all was fine, we then took each others hands, strolling slowly towards this romantic place. The night was cool, but pleasant, as we approached the entrance, we were greeted with a friendly smile and welcomed. We were shown our table and sat down ready to share this night. We ordered our meal, which consisted of an entrée, main meal and dessert. There was soft music playing the background, making the evening even more romantic. Sitting gazing into each others eyes, there was silence, no talking, but a warm feeling of contentment. With the meal finished, we ordered coffee, perfect. The scenery outside the restaurant, was wonderful, we both watched a perfect sunset, the colours reflecting on the still water. The night began to fall and as it did, the stars began to glow, how wonderful. We rose from our seats, paying for meal, the waiter hoped we had a delightful evening, we replied we did. The night was young, what an opportunity to complete this romantic time, we decided to go to the beach and watch the ocean, the refreshing air, the waves gently touching our feet, as we walked along the soft sand. We found a beautiful shell, picking it up, we could hear the sound of the ocean, the complexity and wonder of nature. Gazing into each others eyes, a warm feeling, a gentle breeze wrapped itself around us, there was silence, no words needed, just each other. After just enjoying the moment, I was told to close my eyes, hold my hand out, I felt something….opening my eyes…I was speechless, it was a beautiful ring, this moment was going to last forever, so were we. Blogging was something I’d shied away from, safely sticking within the confines of a forum. I loved sharing thoughts with others, probably because I love to talk, and what better way of doing so than by posting messages? The online friend who had introduced me to forums, had suddenly found a new toy! I’d dropped by to join another chat, only to find a “Ghost Room”, the forum empty, and my friend busily detouring everyone over to her new home, a Blog!

Years later, I became a baby boomer diva with women of my own age bracket, women doing remarkable things with their lives, and almost every single one, had a Blog, or two! My interest aroused, I wanted to know more. A Blog was definitely something worth trying, and why not? I wonder if I could do this? Before giving it any more thought, I took the plunge, daring to step outside my comfort zone, to join my sisters by sharing my thoughts and information with the world! One more challenge in life, and one that had been inspired by these incredible ladies to boldly go where I had never gone before.
Here we were, women over fourty flying through cyberspace at ridiculous speeds, taking risks and daring to test the waters on all new ideas, then reporting back eagerly share with others. I was on my way!

Already a published author, the world of Blogs became a vessel to opening more doors, with this, I found it easier to try my hand at other genres, posting pieces here and there, the online readers, posting critique. It was also a great medium for advertising my work, using the simple Blogspot device to start, then moving up to Wordpress, I thank the genius who designed the wysiwyg text editing format!
Just like the boomer nation women, bloggers are always on the move!
My website had to take a back seat while I set up shop, and with advice from each person, I took their tips and began putting to good use, but my first Blog required a title, a name which would reflect me-Freesiafever became the offspring of my website, A Scent Of A Freesia, still sharing similar information on ovarian cancer, but allowing me the space to explore, further expanding my need to talk, encouraging others to follow my lead. That’s what I define a baby boomer as in today’s world, a leader!
We have a wealth of life-experience under our belts, and we also have the skill and knowledge now to take us on greater adventures. The joy of reading a post you can relate to, the fun of hunting down new resources and tools, everything from widgets to feed burners, embedding music and videos, it never ends. I have at last found a place that can carry my voice, and thanks to various Blogs, have set it free! This diva from ‘down under’ has plenty to say, and plenty of Blogs that can meet all requirements.

I continue the ride of my life, meeting new people as I go, collecting new pointers while following links, to even more Blogs.
It’s all about finding what a Blog, can do for you- With work, I have found it a faster tool for hosting, so now Blogging has replaced a website for the music ezine I am affiliated with, it saves us so much more time, less headaches and quicker feedback! So you see, there’s a Blog for every occasion, and if we can do it, so can you!

DIVA DISCUSSION-Language

Thanks to a couple of 'diva discussions', the differences of language in different countries came to light-Not words spoken in another 'tongue', but the various words with different meanings.
In Australia, we are quite proud of our 'unique lingo', it's what separates us from the rest of the world, but we love sharing and teaching those not so familiar with it, and thanks to Diva Teri Dempski, I can share the Australian 'slang' with you! Teri has many Australian connections, and after our Queen Diva; Beverly Mahone, had raised a question on one particular word, Diva Teri supplied her with the following link:

Let's just say, in the U.S.A, there's a word used to show your support for another whereas 'aussies' would say 'barrack'. ie: To barrack for your favourite 'footy' team! And incase you're wondering how the topic arose?? Our 'aussie' Virtual Assitant Founder & Diva; Kathie M Thomas, decided to bring the matter of a particular word's other meaning.........what transpired was nothing short of hilarious as our American divas looked on in dismay!!! Thanks Kathie, we have plenty more where that came from!!

[SOCIAL NETWORKING:It has become so much bother that I have now done what most normal thinking people in this situation do, save on file!? [silly me] I thought I had covered all, but alas, just as I think I'm safe, just as my confidence sticks its head out to brag, my eye catches glimpse of yet one more tool.
Where do all these 'gizmo's' lead?? Do we even really know just what each one does?? I admit, sometimes I find myself adding extras just so my day doesn't feel a waste...I like my fingers in all pots! But hang on, what else am I doing in between??]
As a follow on to this recent post, (one which seems to be a very hot topic across the net) I went in search for other views- After all, if you want to get the most out of this wonderful resource, you want the best tools, right? I didn't think I had so many posts to delete, wow! Social networking is escalating to the point I have to sit someday's, and think...Now, where was I going?AH, right! Blogging is so much fun especially with the cool tools that keep us moving along.
The last time I was here, I noticed I'd been a member of one that [at the time] had just started....am sure if I was to drop by I'd be in for a shock!
It's alot of work staying on top of each blog, but I find the most time consuming side is the promotional! How many gadgets can one blog have??? lol I am not kidding when I tell you, in my office, there sits a leather case, filled with login details for a stream of networks!

TEA THE SEASON~to taste apples!

The following comes from a quaint little book, one I love as it has the most adorable drawings and the layout is just so clever! It is pretty much a book filled with lovely words of inspiration, written using the 'apple' as its main theme. I am sure you will enjoy!

The book's title is "An Apple A Day" by Karla Dornacher

Here's just a snippet which I thought might be a nice drink for the holiday season~

Appleberry Tea

This delicious, fragrant tea would be wonderful served for a luncheon or any large gathering of ladies
It's easiest to prepare this delightful brew in a 30~cup coffee maker.

Simply combine the following ingredients and heat:
1 gallon of apple juice
32 rasberry tea bags
16 regular tea bags
1 quart of water
2 teaspoons of lemon juice
1/2 cup of sugar

Just a tip:
Pour hot water into your teapot as you prepare the tea
When ready, pour out the hot water and fill with tea.
This will heat your teapot and keep your tea from cooling before serving.
For fun: If they're in season, add a couple of fresh rasberries to each cup for a splash of colour!

So, even with a massive electrical storm hanging over our heads here in Sydney, I took the challenge, and dared to beat the odds...it worked! This coming Wednesday, my brief but worthy report will be aired on Raven's radio programme. What a hoot and what another amazing day working alongside the BBD'S!
